Time management that feels good (not rigid)
Time Management Isn’t About Control — It’s About Freedom
When most people hear time management, they think of strict schedules, productivity hacks, or fitting more into an already full day. I did, it felt exhausing before I had even begun to review what I was doing!
Here’s what I have learnt: good time management isn’t about doing more — it’s about making space for what matters most, shocker right!!
Why Traditional Time Management Doesn’t Work
If your calendar feels like a game of Tetris (do you remember this game), it’s easy to assume you’re just “bad at managing time.” But the problem isn’t you — it’s the idea that time management means squeezing every drop of productivity out of your day.
That approach might work short-term, but it often leads to burnout. You end up efficient but exhausted, crossing off tasks that don’t bring you closer to what you actually want.
Instead of asking: How can I do more?
Ask: What do I want my time to feel like?
Time management done well is less about control and more about alignment. It helps you focus on your priorities, protect your energy, and create breathing room in your day.
Try this:
Plan for Energy, Not Just Tasks – Notice when you have the most focus and do your important work then. Save admin or emails for your lower-energy times.
Use the 3-Priority Rule – Each day, choose three things that truly matter. Anything else is a bonus.
Create White Space – Leave gaps between meetings or tasks. This isn’t wasted time — it’s recovery time that helps you bring your best to what’s next.
Batch the Small Stuff – Group similar tasks together (emails, meetings, calls) to prevent constant switching and creating decision fatigue.
The Ripple Effect
When your time aligns with your priorities and energy, you feel calmer, clearer, and more effective. You’re not chasing every request or drowning in to-do lists — you’re directing your energy toward what counts.
Time management isn’t about restriction. It’s about freedom — freedom to work, rest, and live with more clarity and less overwhelm.
